Voices for Peat (2026), 4K film, sound, 11 minutes.
Voices for Peat is a short artist-documentary exploring the Peatland Library (Moorbibliothek) at the Greifswald Mire Centre in Germany and the work of the international youth collective RE-PEAT. Filmed during a collective research residency in 2025, the film brings together intergenerational voices – including renowned peatland scientist Professor Hans Joosten and members of RE-PEAT – to reflect on peatlands as ecological, cultural, and political landscapes. Moving between the archive of the Peatland Library and a participatory workshop at the nearby Steinbecker Vorstadt Polder, the film explores different ways of understanding and relating to peatlands.
Voices for Peat is the second film in the ongoing Peat Encounters series, highlighting the often quiet, overlooked work of the people and communities dedicated to protecting, restoring, and reimagining peatlands. The film was created with the support of RE-PEAT and the Peatland Library (Moorbibliothek) at the Greifswald Mire Centre.
The film is due to premiere at the Peatland Library (Moorbibliothek) in Greifswald in September 2026 as part of MOOREMOTION, the second student congress, returning to the place where much of the film was made. In October 2026, Voices for Peat will screen at the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, where it has been nominated in the Best Soil Film category.
